How does the steel cut-to-length cutting machine work?

The cut-to-length production line has high automation, fast processing speed and high-speed uncoiling. The leveling and shearing production line is used to uncoil, level and cut metal coils of different specifications into flat plates of required length and width. It has high processing precision and no scratch on the plate surface. It can process all kinds of metal sheets of all kinds of cold rolled coils. So how does steel cut-to-length cutting machine work? Unwinding process

Steel cut-to-length cutting machine usually include an uncoiler before the slitting machine to first ensure the surface quality of the strip. The uncoiling operation of the steel cut-to-length uncoiler is firstly to automatically load the main coil of large-size raw materials onto the uncoiler, and there are two types of uncoilers: double-cone type or expansion mandrel single-ended type. Twin cone decoilers are suitable for heavy-duty applications such as cutting steel to length, while mandrel decoilers are a versatile choice for light and heavy duty tasks.


The coil feed car threads the inner diameter of the main coil into the mandrel, and spins the main coil off the cone or mandrel. Large format stock is peeled to allow the coil heads to enter the edge guides before the flattener. If flatness and a defect-free surface are important at other stages of production, the strip uncoiling and skinning process is of particular importance.


Large-scale cross-cutting process

After the steel strip is uncoiled, the large-size material is loaded into the slitting area, which consists of two parallel arbors and blades, which automatically slit the steel strip under rotation. The cutting operation is performed while the stock is momentarily paused after it has been loaded to a predetermined length beyond the cutting point by a feed roller system or gripping feed tooling. In the steel strip cutting machine, the slitting blade partly enters the billet, and then creates cracks and breaks on both sides of the steel strip.


Sharp knives cut through the stock with high accuracy to provide a more perfect outer edge of the product, rubber stripper rings and scrap winders are available for steel cutters. Scrap winders can be used for trimming and rubber stripper rings can be used to remove any burrs or other defects, ensuring the high quality of the steel plate product and smooth operation of further downstream processing operations.


Before the stacking process or the optional recoiling process, the tensioning system is required to handle main rolls of oversized material that have a larger diameter in the center area than at the edges. The typical tensioning device of the steel strip cutting machine is a tension frame, which can prevent the steel strip from being tightened quickly from the center part and clamped loosely on both sides. In some applications, the stock is very thin, in which case a recirculation pit may be useful, which can handle material that is much thinner at the edges than in the center area before tensioners are applied.
